About Lou...

I've always been happiest when I'm creating something - whether that's designing a new print, sewing my own clothes, experimenting with a new pattern or spending far too long deciding what fabric to use.

I've been sewing for over 15 years and in that time I've fallen completely in love with print, pattern, colour and of course, fabric!

These days you'll usually find me sewing my own wardrobe, designing new fabrics (as well as collecting far too much fabric), sharing sewing tips online and trying to convince myself that I definitely don't need another sewing pattern!

I'm a big believer that you don't have to be an expert to make things. There's something special about learning as you go, trying new things that might not work and ending up with something that is completely your own.

And that's probably why I love sewing so much... there's always something new to learn, make and get excited about!

The Brand

ByLouMoffat started in 2020, born out of an unexpected combination of fashion degree, a global pandemic and a lot of fabric!

When the world came to a stand still during covid, I found myself with a collection of printed fabrics I had hand designed for my final uni collection and no idea what to do with them now I had to finish my degree online. So instead of letting them sit in a cupboard, I turned them into facemasks and scrunchies... and just like that ByLouMoffat was born.

Since then the brand has grown and changed in lots of different ways, but I've always come back to the same thing: sewing and fabric.

Now, ByLouMoffat is all about celebrating the joy of making. From original fabrics and prints designed by me, to sewing accessories, DIY kits, workshops and plenty of sewing inspiration. It's a place for anyone who loves to create - whether you're a lifelong sewist or have never used a sewing machine before.

Whether you're here for the fabric, the sewing inspiration, a new project to get stuck into or simply because you love to make things, I hope you'll find something here that makes you want to get creative!
